After tragic crush, lost shoes await owners at Seoul gym
On March 7, 2011, a man named Jung Hyuk found his shoes in a corner of a gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea.
He had left them there only hours earlier.
It happened because Jung had left a bottle of water behind, thinking he had forgotten to bring it after drinking a bottle of water at the gym.
But, the problem began only after he was on his way home, riding along in his car with his wife, Shin Mi-yeon. The couple had just returned from their honeymoon at the beach.
Jung was supposed to take his wife home.
As they approached the gym, they realized he did not have them in his hands.
Instead, he saw they were lying at his feet, with his wife’s shoelace sticking out of the back of one of his shoes.
The shoes did not belong to the man, a gym instructor. Instead, they were the shoes of his estranged wife.
On March 8, 2011, Jung got divorced, and a week later, he contacted the police to report the loss of his shoes.
He told the police that his wife had left his shoes in a bar in a shopping center near the gym on March 6, 2011, with the intention of returning them after the divorce.
The police believed that the woman had taken two pairs of shoes from her husband and was trying to make the husband believe she had taken them without his permission.
The husband, on the other hand, told the police that his wife had been planning to come back to him after the divorce – and that she was a kindhearted woman who would have kept his shoes.
But when they returned from their honeymoon early on March 7, 2011, they discovered his shoes in the corner of the gym.
And they were not the shoes of Jung, but his wife’s shoes.
After police questioned Jung about why his shoes were in the gym rather than at his home or office, the man told them that his shoes were at the gym.
