Speculation rises after local mayor appears to post on Facebook about teen 'changing cycle' with IBAD treatment

A regional mayor is facing an investigation after he appeared to ask a woman online whether her choice of vaccine changed her menstrual cycle.

In a bizarre Facebook post last week, Mirabel Mayor Ronald Derain shared a story about 19-year-old Jena-Anne Lowder having a “brilliant talk” with Miss France contestant Pialek Angelo.

The Facebook post reads: “Apparently this morning, while asleep, Jena-Anne woke up and noticed the blood streaming down her belly button and needing to be removed. After listening to Pialek, she decided to ask her what she has done with her period for the past five years.”

Jena-Anne thought that Pialek was referring to the Ivrea immunization, but learned that it was the Rota vaccine that changed her menstrual cycle. When she got up to go to the bathroom, she was able to remove her bellies but was in too much pain to remove the tubes as well.

“Jena-Anne watched with horror how she had used her belly button and her sterilized chubby pads to wear the IV on her vagina,” the post reads. “Worst of all, she needed to go in the bathroom with her knapsack full of water and baby wipes so she could wipe off all the blood. Thinking that this is how she’s dealt with her monthly cycle for the past five years, she decided to answer the question, ‘Did your IV insert itself into your belly button?’ According to Pialek, it did,” Derain wrote.

The post received widespread criticism, with many calling it “bizarre” and “alarming.”

According to The Canadian Press, Derain and his wife want to pay the wages that he withheld from the woman “over this matter.”

Riley Rocca, a spokesman for the Ontario Provincial Police, said “the conduct of our officers involved is continuing to be investigated and is being reviewed as part of a review of the matter.”

Jena-Anne’s father, Dominic Lowder, said he will be suing the mayor for negligence, which he said will further damage his family.

“It’s an invading of our privacy,” Lowder told the Canadian Press.

Rocca said that as of Monday, no arrest had been made.
