The American martial arts expert Gina Carano has signed on to star in the biopic about Joe Biden’s eldest son, Hunter Biden, who died from brain cancer. According to Variety, she will play his wife, Naomi.
In the film, which will be produced by Robinson Meyer of Ninjas Runnin’ Wild, Carano will also train the widower in taekwondo. The story of Hunter Biden is a harrowing one. He was 40 years old when he died in 2015. His wife, who was nine months pregnant, died in the hospital, unable to save her unborn child. Hunter Biden, a Rhodes scholar and academic track star, had been the running back on his son Beau’s school football team.

Carano gained notoriety early in her career for her performances in the film series The Legend of Tarzan, which included starring roles in both the series and two direct-to-video movies. She has also appeared in the films The Bleeder and Haywire. She was most recently featured in the lead role in the film Knockout and will next be seen in the series Replicas, which is currently filming in Alberta, Canada.
Though she has appeared in a number of movies, Carano’s starring role in the 1992 Jackie Chan film Rumble in the Bronx is considered her breakout performance. She followed that up with three sequels to the film, joining the series of action films known as the “emo-rapture”. She also made a guest appearance in Wolverine 2, as Viper, a character that is currently played by an actress named Camila Morrone.
With some Hollywood writers writing off the idea of the First Lady taking her place at the State Department – she has a science degree and a law degree from Harvard – it will be interesting to see how Carano could be the main attraction for a much smaller and, at this point, lower budget film. If My Son Hunter is successful, a number of studios may take an interest in signing her up for a potential comeback. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in April.
