Singer and songwriter Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have called it quits after a two-year relationship.
The couple revealed the news on Instagram Saturday, writing “We go back a long way and have grown so much together. We have amazing memories and are very excited for where this chapter of our lives takes us.”
Cabello has used Mendes’ music to express her personal experience with her mental health.
“Until this day, I would come home and play an album like this where I’m just like, ‘You don’t understand,'” she told Glamour. “It’s insane, because it means everything to me. It’s such a gift to be able to do this.”

Cabello credited Mendes with helping her handle her mental health struggles. The pair first came to public attention when Cabello, then known as Camila, was a contestant on the show “American Idol.”
Cabello tweeted in 2015 that it was important to recognize and discuss mental health issues after Mendes “liked and replied to a bunch of my tweets about mental health awareness.”
In 2017, Cabello told USA Today that her on-again-off-again relationship with Mendes was “complicated” and “slow” but said the star helped her process her feelings.
The couple was first spotted together in 2015 and sparked dating rumors in 2017 after a friendly encounter in Chicago at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
Cabello has been posting throwback photos of herself and Mendes together on Instagram and Twitter.
Fans sent messages of support to the pair.
“One thing I love about you, when you love each other you show it. The respect that you have for each other is so genuine,” one user tweeted.
